Ghost River by Chad Ryan

Book Reviews

I struggled in the beginning with keeping characters straight, there were a lot introduced at once and the names were not traditional at all. It sorted itself out, and beyond that, what a fantastic debut! This is not my go to genre, but I found myself sucked in and compelled to find out what fresh horror waited on the next page.

I recommend wholeheartedly. I don’t default to 5-Star Reviews, but in this case, for such a great debut, it is well deserving. Great job Chad, you’re gonna be the guy that pulls me into reading horror on a regular basis and I can’t wait for your next.

What the Sea has Wrought

Book Reviews

What The Sea Has Wrought by Ashley Gallaher-Pollard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fantastic debut collection from a superb poet.

I loved this. I intended to only read a few at a time, but ended reading the whole thing in one sitting. Then I went back and have been re-reading and savoring each piece at my leisure.

I rarely give 5 stars, a 4 star review from me means a very enjoyable book. One reason I will, is when a debut offering is just so good. This is one of those cases. Pick it up, and enjoy it as much as I did.

Really enjoyed the story line. Nazis, spies, old Enigma codes there is a lot here to enjoy. The plot was well defined and the main character was well developed. I did struggle through the first part of the book though. Long descriptions and a lack of dialog made it, at times, difficult to follow. At that point the action picks up and the story moves much better. Overall I would say the plot carried the book and the lack of dialog held it back, especially in the beginning.

If you enjoy spy novels or delving into WWII alternate history then I would certainly recommend. I would read a follow up.

All The Deadly Secrets by Carol Schaal

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A very good read, just finished and did not guess the ending. Story moves along swiftly, maybe at the expense of some character development, but it doesn’t detract from the story. I found myself powering through this book and felt satisfied at the end. Clues were scattered about as well as misleading facts to keep the reader guessing up until the end.

A solid first novel from Carol that I would recommend and I would definitely seek her out again.

Very good reading! I loved the premise, found it very intriguing. In fact I wish it had been fleshed out a little more because of the innovative story line. I did think it could have used an edit for a few typos etc but overall a fast paced and engaging story line thst is an enjoyable read.

I would love to see a sequel. This is an idea that could turn into a great series.

A good read. Non-stop action, though it felt at the expense of some character development. I felt at times that I had to double-check which secondary character was who because some seemed to act similar. That aside the plot itself was well thought out and the story was fast paced. Lots of advanced tech. There were twists and turns, especially at the end that I did not expect. I would gladly read a sequel.
